Inscribed by the artist who gifted the artwork to Art Historian Mario Barata and his wife Tiziana.
Brazilian art critic and historian Mário Barata, a pioneering scholar of African and Afro-Brazilian art, was an early supporter of Rubem Valentim’s work. This dialogue gained particular resonance around Valentim’s participation in the First World Festival of Negro Arts in Dakar in 1966, his first encounter with Africa and a pivotal moment in the development of his symbolic visual language.
