Molded jacarandá veneer
Each: 20.08 × 20.08 × 20.48 in. (51 × 51 × 52 cm)
A pair of iconic Petalas side tables designed by Jorge Zalszupin and produced by L’Atelier in São Paulo. The design takes its name from the Portuguese word for “petals,” reflected in the softly curved forms that compose each tabletop.
Molded jacarandá veneer creates a rich, continuous grain across the sculptural surfaces, contrasted by the slender black iron structure beneath. The combination of warm Brazilian wood, elegant curves, and remarkably light construction is characteristic of Zalszupin’s approach to modern Brazilian design.
Designed in 1959 and produced circa 1959-1965, the Petalas tables are among Zalszupin’s most recognizable forms.
