Francisco Brennand (1927–2019) was one of Brazil’s most important ceramic artists. Working from his celebrated Oficina in Recife, Brennand developed a distinctive ceramic language inspired by nature, mythology, and the human form. His technically demanding process employed specially formulated clay, richly colored glazes, and successive high-temperature firings, producing the characteristic depth, texture, and tonal variation of his surfaces.
